Is Levelling too Easy?

All’s quiet on the Guk-Gate front, so I’ve taken the time to figure out how to get polls working. It’s ugly but functional.

Today’s question is “How often do you turn off Combat XP?”

My own guild keeps combat xp turned off permanently, from the Far Journey onwards. I’m quite sure that if we didn’t we’d all be level fifty already, instead of mid-twenties.

My own feeling is that xp is far too easy to obtain in EQ2 (or rather levelling requires too little of it), and without self-restricting your intake, you will level far too fast to really see very much on your journey. To prove this point I’m attempting to speed level a character on the Test Center, but it’s a bit too early to be able to show any useful results yet.

I’m looking forward to seeing the results from the poll, and would be very interested to hear other player’s opinions on this.

i tend to agree with you that it is far too easy to level your character, but at the same time i never turn off combat exp. because i feel like i need to see some sort of progress, even if its small, for it to be worth my time. The last five levels for me from 35 to 40 have seemed to move much more slowly though. probably because i’ve been spending a lot of time working on older quests. i think it would be beneficial to be able to turn off just vitality and not combat exp entirely. Passing by some content doesn’t bother me so much because playing an alt is just as fun as playing my main char.

  • Much like the commenter above, I agree that it is too easy to level but I don’t have the self-restraint to turn off combat xp. I need that carrot from the dangling carrot stick to keep going!

My leveling is kept in restraint by playing alts (fun), tradeskilling (yawn) and harvesting (double-yawn).

Anyone who thinks leveling is too easy needs to put the melee characters away and roll a mage, especially a conjurer or bard.

  • I have to agree once you get to the mid 30’s exp tends to slow down alot. Also you tend to spend lots of time getting groups to gether jsut to get access quests done for the higher zones. (Unless yo uahve a guild that can do it all together) Mages are alot harder to level….
