Episode 13. Unlucky for some, as I ran into a quite unfortunate bug.
The bug was not quite the one I thought though. To open the spellbook, it has to be in your hotbar. But under Ars Magica version 5.52.011, the version I was using when recording , right clicking with an empty spellbook in your hotbar made you crash instantly, which made me not want to put the book anywhere near that. Version 5.52.012, which Mithion put out after I reported it, fixes that, so we’re all good now, as I’ll prove in the next show!
I demonstrate how to make the tools and ingredients for scribing Ars Magica spells.
Ars Magica by Mithion : Putting a magical spring in my stride! I know exactly what purpose I can put this jump spell too in the next episode.
Mo Creatures by Dr Zhark and Bloodshot42 : Dr Z is responsible for the werewolf that threw me around for a bit. I need to acquire some werewolf-specific weaponry.
Today we taste the rainbow as we go in search of dyes for making Ars Magica runes, and I set up my very own chocolate farm!
I somehow manage to lose a rabbit so thoroughly that I forgot it ever existed until I had to edit the video. I must have knocked it off on a tree when I was chasing that ocelot.
Mods I Mentioned.
It was a pretty vanilla-based episode. Even the chocolate was vanilla. Mmmm. Now I just need to find some strawberries.
Ars Magica by Mithion : I should have enough dyes now to be able to at least scribe a spell or two.
Mo Creatures by Dr Zhark and Bloodshot42 : Mo Creatures does a great job on increasing the variety of waterdwelling creatures, but a side effect of that can be that squid can become somewhat tricky to find, especially as sharks eat them.
A rather crafting-focused episode today. Tomorrow will be more adventuresome as I go in search of vital ingredients!
With my base storage tidied up in between episodes, I set about creating a few backpacks, so that I don’t have to cut my explorations so short in the future. I also, at long last, craft my wand of the apprentice and gain my very own copy of the Thaumonomicon. Filled with arcane mysteries it be.
Mods I Mentioned.
Forestry by SirSengir : A packrat by nature, I’ll be wanting a full set of Forestry’s backpacks before too long. I just need some more string.
Thaumcraft by Azanor : The Thaumonomicon, and the wand of the apprentice. My next step is to build a research table, but that shall require ink.
Spoiler Alert!!! In this episode I show how to get around the security of a vanilla desert temple. If you’ve not done that before, you might want to skip this one. I won’t mind!
Grimoire of Gaia by Silentine : The desert holds new dangers in the form of GoG’s Cockatrice and Harpy. Not everything Silentine makes is out to kill you though. Those Centaur I found on the edge of the plains are quite peaceful. Unless you annoy them, then they’ll turn you into a pin-cushion.
Project Zulu by Crudedragos : The rhino, and also those giraffe I saw in the distance. Might also be responsible for the pyramid, but won’t be able to tell until I take a look inside.
Natura by mDiyo : Those Saguaro cactus are just one of many plants Natura adds to the world.
Thaumcraft by Azanor: Thaumium is a magical alloy from Thuamcraft. It’s only about as strong as iron, but it is highly enchantable. Being an axe, the thaumium tool I found probably won’t be super-useful, but I’ll enchant it up at some point as see how it turns out.
With my precious iron ore in hand, I got down to crafting business, demonstrating the basics of turning ore into dusts, and thence into ingots. Those iron ingots were the key to unlocking the glorious power of Ars Magica! Just as soon as I research some spells. Crafting-packed as this episode was, there was time left over to begin a new adventure, filled with peril of the most perilous kind.
Leaving the Extreme Hills and Forest biomes behind, I encountered several creatures for the first time in this series. Encountering different sorts of creature in each biome is one of my favourite aspects of Minecraft mods.
Metallurgy by Rebel Keithy and Shadowclaimer : The stone crusher I made was from Metallurgy. Several other mods have devices with a similar function, but Metallurgy’s one does not require any exotic ingredients or fuels, making it a good one to start with.
Grimoire of Gaia by Silentine : That rather dangerous green monster I battled in the swamp was a Sahaguin, and I managed to avoid a Yeti on the edge of the taiga.
Mo Creatures by Dr Zhark and Bloodshot42 : I love elephants! Perhaps you could tell when you were watching? I’m definitely going to try to tame a couple at some point.
Ars Magica by Mithion : With my Arcane Empowerment Table I could, (dare I say it?), rule the world!!! Well, perhaps not yet, but it was an essential first step.
With my stomach full, it was finally time to delve into my local cave system. Only with the power of iron could I hope to unlock the secrets of Ars Magica, not to mention the necessity of making myself some better tools and armour. A stone pick will only get you so far.
Mods I Mentioned
Metallurgy by RebelKeithy and Shadowclaimer : Most of these extra ores I’m finding are from Metallurgy.
Wild Caves by Alexmania : is doing a lovely job of cluttering up my caves with spiderwebs, stalactites and other bits and pieces. Makes them feel much less barren.
Mo Creatures by Dr Zhark and BloodShot42 is responsible for the distressingly high numbers of evil horses I encountered today, as well as those pesky rats.
After all the hectic adventure of the past few episodes, it’s time to relax on a rainy Sunday evening with some home improvements. I do a bit of work on my new tower, as well as back at base.
Mods I Mentioned
Bibliocraft is, of course, by Nuchaz. Not “Nuchak” as I called him during the recording. It’s a great mod that has far more than just excellent bookcases. I’ll show off more of the recipes when I have the ingredients and the need.
Special Monsters by Father Toast: Why was that skeleton wearing a bandana anyway? No ordinary skeleton he! He was a Quick Skeleton. I was lucky he didn’t have a bow.
Natura by mDiyo : The cotton plants are a Natura addition.
