Ark’s guide to low level Cultivation and Apothecary in Warhammer

Update: For an up to date version of this guide, see here.

I see many things in my log files. I can see what google searches bring people here, and one I’ve seen a lot of are questions about seeds and apothecary. There’s hardly any information out there about them at the moment, but as luck would have it I’m a compulsive note-taker. Here then, as a public service, is everything I’ve figured out. It’ll be a work in progress, and I should probably move it to a page, rather than a post when I have time to fiddle. This should be enough to let people make slightly more rational decisions about what to keep and throw out. And hey, if you have any questions, about pretty much anything, feel free to ask in the comments here, and I’ll always try to find the answer.

These are all the seeds and spores I have found thus far. I am sure there are others out there. If you happen to play Order on the Makaison server, and have any seeds not listed, I would love them, all in the name of research! The 25 skill green ones make better potions than the skill 1 whites.

The rare seeds can be occasionaly be looted, and can also result from a lucky cultivation of their commoner counterpart. The rare plant will produce a more powerful potion than the common plant.

In the list below, the first item is the seed, along with cultivation skill required, followed by the result of cultivating, and the apothecary skill required to make use of it.

GOA manage to screw up Warhammer release.

Well, like a lot of people I received my Warhammer box in the post today. The beta version didn’t have any intro movies, to save on bandwidth, so I thought I’d uninstall it and install from my shiny new disks.

This was a mistake. A schoolboy error that I promise to flagellate myself for, just as soon as I finish posting. Sigmar, forgive me, for forgetting who it was that had sent me those disks, and who it is that is running the European servers.

Your Warhammer folder is missing a large number of files. Reinstall the game from the supplied installation media.

“Your Warhammer folder is missing a large number of files.
Reinstall the game from the supplied installation media.”

Having checked the internet, and with friends, it appears this is happening to everybody that installs from disk. It’s been going on for a few days, but I hadn’t noticed. From the lack of any mention of this issue on their website, including in the help section, I guess GOA hasn’t noticed either.

Needless to say this only affects European players. If you have the US client, carry on as normal, and rejoice that you will never have to deal with the foulness that is GOA. I am praying this gets fixed by tomorrow, or Warhammer populations are going to be seriously damaged on this side of the pond.

Afterthought: It might appear to the passing visitor, not all of whom come here to read about MMO, that I’m a little unkind and unforgiving towards GOA. You’re right. Their management of the early days of the European servers for Dark Ages of Camelot scoured all pity towards them from my soul.

As I lie in fitful sleep, my dreams are troubled by visions of the GOA. How they dance and jibber!! Even the horrors of Tzeentch are as naught to what I have seen, for in the darkest corners of their server rooms GOA feast upon the hopes of their playerbase, and yet their hunger diminishes not.” – Mathias Brandt

Update. This has materialised on the GOA Warhammer news page. I took a picture for posterity.:

Goa Blocking Disks News

For “some of us”, read all of us. Silly us! Our disks aren’t faulty! They’re blocking us on purpose! Well, that’s alright then.

Do you suppose you might have mentioned this before we received the disks, and uninstalled our beta versions? And why don’t US players have to put up with this nonsense? If you planned this, why not give us an error message that actually tells us what the problem is, rather than one telling us to keep reinstalling from the same disks that you are blocking?

Update II

Our patchers have started patching. Perhaps somebody at Mythic noticed the online outrage, and called GOA up to ask them why they deliberately planned to shut part of their playerbase out of the head-start that they had paid for. Still, I’m making no assumptions until it actually lets us into the game.

Update III

Aye, it looks like GOA backed down from their scheme. People in the pre-order headstart who installed from disk can now patch, and play.

Seriously GOA, that was such an unnecessary mess. Start asking yourselves “Is this best for our customers?” before you make any further decisions.

Squadron Leader Jack Steel and the Starblade: Episode 3

Bladelogow

Yvette Dulac has been kidnapped by the beautiful, yet sooo evil, Helga von Schmidt! Can Jack arrive in time to save her from becoming just one more of Mordred’s zombie minions?

This is one of my favourite episodes :) Thwack!

Warhammer Online’s last minute patch before Early Access begins

With Early Access for all the fancy-pants with their Collector’s Editions due to start this Sunday, many problems that have been flagged up by the Warhammer Online beta-testers are addressed in this patch. I hope it has been thoroughly in-house tested, as it’s kind of late to be introducing any new problems.

I’ve had a chance to spend a few hours on a friend’s beta account, and the game seems reasonably solid, though the newbie zones do tend to be the most polished part of any MMO in it’s early days.

The combat animation seemed a bit limited, at least for the two classes I’ve had time to try, as did the character creation options. Turns out those extra heads you get for having the collector’s edition might be more useful than I realised, as you sure don’t get many options with the basic package. Given the limited number of classes in any newbie zone, and that everyone from a class is dressed identically, with no chance to choose clothing colours during character creation, and you have a newbie zone that is comically heaving with almost identical looking people. Like a terrifying clone invasion devouring all before it.

I did not crash during my few hours of play, which I find to be a refreshing change from other recent new releases (I’m looking at YOU, Conan!). It all seems pretty playable, and there is are many aspects of the game I have yet to try, so I’ll be joining the other regular pre-orders early access folks on Monday, to find out what this War has in store.

Below you can find the patch notes for Warhammer Online version 4.1.1 Just hit the “Keep Reading” link if you’re not on this post’s own page.

War! What is it good for?

Well, it had to happen. In spite of rather enjoying Everquest 2 at the moment, I have finally given in to the avalanche of requests for me to try Warhammer Online. Even friends who’ve never played an MMO in their life have been inspired to give it a go. If we manage to coordinate on server choice, we might actually end up with quite a sizable guild!

I’d been steadfastly ignoring all news of the game, so I’ve sat through all the developer podcasts tonight in an attempt to educate myself a little. It seems interesting, but I have become horribly cynical about new MMO releases, so I’m reluctant to get too excited just yet.

It still seems a bit of an odd game to me, from what I’ve read on it. Maybe I’m just stuck in my ways, but the only two crafts are talisman making, and apothecary. Where’s the smithing? The tailoring? Still, that they are willing to try a different approach can only be at worst educational, and at best, groundbreaking.

Our spy in the Beta tells us that Team Evil has a much greater population than Team Good, so I’ll be agitating for us to be the good guys this time around.

Blast, that song is stuck in my head now. Lets see if I can find it on Youtube:

Squadron Leader Jack Steel and the Starblade: Episode Two
