Ark’s Magical Modded Minecraft Misadventure 45 : Thaumcraft : Goggles of Revealing and Vis Nodes

Gathering my ingredients, and calling forth the power of Vis, I succeed in creating some rather snazzy headgear.

I then go on a quick tour of my local nodes, examining common, pure, and unstable varieties. I don’t know any of any dark nodes in my world, which is probably a Good Thing.

Note: I have some medical stuff that happens on a three month cycle, and I’m right at the end of that, with treatment due this Thursday. I’ve been flagging for the last week or so, but for the next few days I’m mostly just going to want to sleep, and concentrating will be very hard. So in the interests of not making completely rubbish videos, I’m going to take the rest of the week off! With any luck I should be refilled with vim and vigour by Friday.

Mods Encountered

Thaumcraft by Azanor: The Goggles are mine!I’m going to try to wear them as my standard kit now, though I’ll need to keep a close eye on their state of repair. I don’t want to have to replace them.

Ars Magica by Mithion: The Hecate is quite a nuisance. It counts as a zombie for the purposes of smashing doors down, and kills villagers. It can also fly. I’m not sure if it’s capable of zombiefying them. By the time I realised there was a problem, the place was empty.

I’ve not helped myself by having a one building village. It makes a total wipeout far more of a possibility. I shall have to think about how I want to expand the living arrangements over there.

If you want to repopulate your village, I would go looking for more lost miners, as well as go looking for a summoner. The spawn eggs will help you repopulate the village, along with the lost miners.

If I were you, I would go looking for more buildings out in the wilderness, and move them where you are.

I would build up my defenses before I started trying to repopulate the village. I would also get to work on trying to make a number of golden apples, or finding them. I would build up a supply of golden nuggets from zombie pigmen. I would start raising pigs near Juton, if I were you.

Stronger doors would also be a good idea.

Other than that, I don’t know what to tell you.

Eli just found a great use for Juton. Nice.

Also, I was playing with the exact same build you are, recently.

I discovered an old building from Fossils and Archaeology. It has clay, bricks, netherrack, cobwebs, enchanting tables, bookcases, archaeology machines, glowstone, and a number of other things.

    Well worth looking for.

You could always go and search for the second statue you came across – the one that spawned the melons. You might be able to turn Juton into something useful for defense.

With all of the mods you have would it be possible to fence off and thoroughly light your village or will that not prevent what happened from happening again?

Hope you are feeling better! :)

    I had an idea.

    T-Rex defense mechanism.

Come on… That would be awesome…

You’re still playing on hard? Well.. I guess I would have the same problem if I was playing on hard. I have my villagers in the same wizard tower as you – actually I’ve got 2. They’re raised with a deep moat around them that keeps out ordinary mobs. I have it fenced with a few wooden gates that the villagers can’t open. I also have a row of cactus at the main entry, just outside the gates at the end of the bridge over the moat. I have 2 iron golems plus a stone golem. I wonder if they’d be able to take out a hecate? Hmm.. Oh and the main thing. You need to have the roof of that wizard tower well lit. Otherwise monsters spawn on the wool, then drop down onto the balconies – sometimes to the ground. As for what to do about the Hecate, though… :( all options I can think of would be more than slightly ugly. Is it worth keeping it on hard?

    PS Squishy and MapleBacon have the best avatars. Mine’s like a green leaf unicorn who wants a hug :}
