Ark’s Magical Modded Minecraft Misadventure 34 : Buildcraft Stirling Engines

I am knee deep in bees, and so it follows that I am also getting swamped with honey combs. Trying to centrifuge them all just using the clockwork engine is going to give me wrist-strain. It is time to upgrade my Buildcraft energy system.

I show how to make energy pipes, chutes, and Stirling engines, and do some wiring behind the walls.

Buildcraft 3.7.1 maintained by CovertJaguar: Since I recorded this episode I’ve run an energy pipe as far as the enchanting chamber underneath the east wizard tower. Even wizards want to be connected to the grid! I’m still deciding how I want to work the oil refining.

I’ve also put a chute on the Stirling Engine itself, realising it’s a great place to throw any unwanted saplings and wooden items.

Forestry 2.2.8.3 by Sir Sengir: My bees are coming along really well. I’m working on improving the quality of my mundane bees before I get too far into more advanced and tricksy species. By crossing my Forest Bees with some Modest bees from the desert, I have managed to, after a lot of back-crossing, develop a stable line of nocturnal Forest Bees. Being able to work during both day and night, they’re far more productive than their ancestors. That hive is now turning out high quality drones that I can put into more complex breeding programmes.

Ark’s Magical Modded Minecraft Misadventure 33 : Enchantment Tables

If I’m going to survive outside the relative safety of my valley, I’m going to need better gear. Thanks to the generosity of the local ogre population, I now have enough obsidian to build my very own enchantment table. At the cost of my levels, I’ll be able to imbue weapons, tools, and armour with random magics. Sounds like a plan!

Bibliocraft by Nuchaz : Such excellent bookshelves that I couldn’t resist using them again. If you’re looking to a more compact enchantment table setup than usual, Bibliocraft bookshelves, filled with books, will take up half the space of regular bookcases.

Mo Creatures by Dr Zhark and Bloodshot42 : The Mo Creatures ogre is notable for its tendency to drop obsidian blocks.

The Lion King Mod : The Lion King put in an unexpected and not entirely welcome first appearance, granting my weapon the power to smite hyena. I’m sure that’ll turn out to be incredibly useful once I decide to visit that leonine dimension.

Ark’s Magical Modded Minecraft Misadventure 32 : Elephants!

My plans for an episode about village-building were thrown into disarray by the arrival of a baby elephant on the borders on my home. I couldn’t pass up this opportunity to make a mighty new friend!

Mo Creatures 5.2.3 by Dr Zhark and Bloodshot42 : Mo creatures pretty much managed to grab my full attention for this episode. I’ve run into various elephants and mammoths previously, but this was the first baby one I’ve spotted near to my base.

I’m not in a brilliant spot to make good use of ground mounts, with trees and hills everywhere. When I have secondary bases in less lumpy and verdant places, they’ll get a lot more use. I am in the process of making a tree-free path along the western edge of the river, so I can at least get up to the desert without bouncing off 3 dozen trees on the way.

For details on making the sugar lumps, renaming medallion, and animal pens check out episode 24 when I set about gathering my horses.

Primitive Mobs by DaveyX : This has finally come out for 1.5.2, and I thoroughly recommend it. As well as adding quite a number of extra foes, it adds three new sorts of Testificate (the villager types) who can spawn out in the wilderness. As they appear to count as full villagers, I am theorising that they will spontaneously make my base count as a village if they happen to come upon its wooden doors, and then begin to multiply. Time will tell if that is correct.

Ark’s Magical Modded Minecraft Misadventure 31 : The Travelling House

I begin still in that rather fine Ars Magica wizard tower, with plans to house-nap it. I go through the Travelling House process, and bring it back to my valley.

But I am not alone. Whom the gods would destroy, they first give melons.

Travelling House : This was the clear star of the episode. While it had sounded amazing, I was interested to see how well it would work in practise. It performed flawlessly!

I’m now the proud owner of another wizard tower. Once I put wooden doors in all its entrances, enough to support 16*0.35 testificates, it’ll be a very useful part of my village.

Household Gods : I can thing of no other explanation of the mysterious pumpkin and melon spawning than the presence of Demeter, goddess of the harvest. Or at least some portion of her. The Household God statues are randomly assembled with feet, torso, and head of a number of different gods, with each piece forming part of a sentence that describes the statues power. They can appear on the surface, but both statues I have a lead on appear to be submerged. I’m going to have to don my Fedora and engage in a spot of archaeology.

Ark’s Magical Modded Minecraft Misadventure 30 : Journey to 0,0

I set out on a journey to the 0,0 map co-ordinates. It’s not terribly far, just on the other side of the jungle, but I’ve not been out that way yet and I’m sure to encounter some wonderful things!

Utility Mobs 2.0.1 by Father Toast : The Luggage is back! Let’s see how long I can keep him alive this time.

Ars Magica 5.52.013 by Mithion: I encountered this house a few times during my worldgen tests, and I think it is my favourite Ars Magica wizard tower. Though the fact that it is about 50% wool probably makes it a bit of a fire risk. Once I put wooden doors into every entrance on both floors, it’ll be fantastic for my planned village.

As my wizard level rises, I’m running into more of these pesky dark mages. But so far they have just been novices, and not particularly menacing. You can tell by the colour of their spellbook. The darker the colour of the spellbook, the more dangerous they are. The more skilled mages may give me a very bad day if they find me before I’m ready.

Goblins 4.2 by Sartharis : Our first run in with the goblins. In small numbers they’re not too dangerous, but when I find a goblin village the fur will really start flying.

Rancraft Penguins : The penguins I encountered today were Little Blue Penguins, which should have been easy enough to remember. They’re one of the species you can find in beach sub-biomes. Penguins can be tamed as pets using fish, sheered for feathers, or hunted for their pelts.

Chococraft 2.8.7 by Torojima : As I did not have this installed when I created the world, it is only now that I’ve travelled a good distance away that I’ve found some Gysahl Greens. And, being me, I made them rather rare too. Gysahl Greens can be farmed, so I’ve found all I’ll ever need to get the Chocobo onto my team.

Ark’s Magical Modded Minecraft Misadventure 29 : Building a Better Bee with Forestry

It’s time for Plan Bee!! With my diamonds in hand, I construct the fabled Beealyzer, allowing me to view the genetic structure of my buzzing friends. Armed with this knowledge, I set forth to build a better bee.

It was probably ridiculously confusing to keep track of the traits during the video so I made a little chart. I think I had a certain amount of beginner’s luck in how many mutations to the Common Bee strain I had. The Common Bee is the first major step for any bee breeder, and you can get them from crossing almost any of the mundane bees. Building a stable Common Bee population is probably my first main task, as they’ll be needed for many steps further down the way.

This episode builds upon my bee hunting antics in episode’s 16, 17, and 18, and I made the clockwork engine, carpenter, and centrifuge in episode 27.

Forestry 2.2.8.2 by Sir Sengir: I am filled with bee glee! It might not have seemed like it during the video, as I was trying to wrap my head around quite a lot of detail, but this is just the sort of complex system that I love. I’m not exactly sure how to do videos about it and make it interesting, but I’ll do my best!

Extra Bees 1.6 prerelease 15 by Binnie: Provider of my incredibly useful indoor bees, the Rocky bees. The most recent version made Marble bees obsolete, but I still have some left. I’m using those princesses for a bit of practise.

Magic Bees 2.0.2 by MysteriousAges: My box of magical bees is calling to me, but for now I want to try to stick to the Mundane bees. They’re less likely to accidentally call forth an army of the dead if I make a mistake/get things absolutely right.

Ark’s Magical Modded Minecraft Misadventure 28 : The Diamond Hunt

It’s time. I have been held up on my investigation of awesome things by my lack of a few pieces of crystalline carbon. So I get tooled up, and head down into the depths in search of a Minecrafter’s best friend.

Not the most illuminating or exciting episode, I’ll admit. Finding diamonds is a lot like eating your cabbage before being allowed pudding. I promise you that the next episode will involve a great deal of pudding, with custard.

Forestry by Sir Sengir : I’ve gotten most of my honey combs centrifuged now, leaving me with a great big pile of wax, but more importantly, a lot of honey drops for fuelling my beealyzer.

Farlanders : The masked Enderman I encountered was a Rebel Farlander. I’ve had problems with these chaps before, off camera, as they’re quite fond of murdering villagers and stealing their homes. I expect them to be quite a nuisance when I found my village.

Ars Magica by Mithion : Since I raised my wizard level, I’m running into a lot more Ars Magica creatures. I don’t think I’ve encountered a dark mage while recording yet, but they’re out there, and quite troublesome!

It was odd how many arcane creepers were raining down from the area on on the left of the ravine. That makes me wonder if there might be something of interest up there.
