Ark’s Magical Modded Minecraft Misadventure : Episode 23

In the last episode I claimed there was an unstable Thaumcraft vis node south of my base. Today, I show how I could have known that without goggles, and go to check it out a bit more closely.

I also do a bit of vegetable farming.

Mods Encountered

Thaumcraft by Azanor : The obsidian altar will continue to pump out aggressive-aspected wisps until I deal with the spawner. As it’s embedded inside obsidian, I couldn’t do that today. Even if I could destroy it, I’m somewhat reluctant to, as wisps can drop some useful ingredients.

Mo Creatures by Dr Zhark and Bloodshot42 : I’ll probably need to put fences around my farms eventually, as Mo Creatures is filled with critters who like messing with your crops.

Natura by mDiyo : Natura adds cotton and barley seeds to grass drops, as well as the pants themselves growing in the wild.

Forestry by SirSengir : I now have some visible cross-bred leaf blocks on the trees near my hives. Most exciting, but I’m leaving them where they are until I can analyse their genetic structure and pick the best saplings for the next generation.

Ark’s Magical Modded Minecraft Misadventure : Episode 22 : Thaumcraft Crucibles

More Thaumaturgy today as I set up a Crucible, and eventually manage to get it working. I also make and play around with my shiny new Thaumometer.

Mods Encountered

Thaumcraft by Azanor : As I continue to use my new crucible, more flux will be created, and things are likely to get pretty weird around here.

Buildcraft by Covert Jaguar : The oil I ended up using to power the crucible was from a Buildcraft oil well.

Mo Creatures by Dr Zhark and Bloodshot42 : “I’m Bat-Horse”, as the MoC Bat-Horse didn’t say. They’re much less scary than they look.

Ark’s Magical Modded Minecraft Misadventure : Episode 21 – Researching in Thaumcraft

Today I put my wizard hat back on, and begin to dabble in the weird ways of Thaumcraft research.

Realising that magic is not the only path to success, I also show how to create a batch of Damascus Steel with Metallurgy. Damascus Steel is made by mixing bronze dust and iron dust. It is a little better than iron for most purposes, and is significantly more durable, meaning that gear will last far longer. All tools and armour made with Metallurgy metals have a unique appearance too.

Mods Encountered

Metallurgy by Rebel Keithy and Shadowclaimer : There are a great many ores and alloys in Metallurgy beyond the ones I’ve used so far. Most of them are rarer, or in the Nether or End. Damascus Steel is a good working material for me where I am, still in the very early game.

Grimoire of Gaia by Silentine just updated to 1.4. As well as taking pity on me in my Extreme Hills home (Silentine watches the series!) by pushing Griffons and Valkyrie up from sea level, the new version also adds 5 new monsters whom I’m sure shall be delighted to see me.

Thaumcraft by Azanor : At last I’m back on track to becoming a mighty Thaumaturge! I did mispeak though, as I have done a little with Thaumcraft in a previous episode. You can catch me creating my first wand, and the fabled Thaumonomicon back in episode 11.

The crucible is a tricky beast, from what my studies tell me, so is going to require a room of its own. I’m extending the ground floor of the wizard tower to accommodate it.

Ark’s Magical Modded Minecraft Misadventure : Episode 20

We begin as we left off, with your humble chronicler trapped down a well by the cruellest and most devious of traps. Oh woe! Shall I ever see my dear beehives again?

Spoiler Alert: Yes.

Mods mentioned

Ruins by AtomicStryker : Most of Ruin’s structures don’t try to kill you. That well had a pretty good try though.

Grimoire of Gaia by Silentine : A new creature encountered today! The Creep is the juvenile form of the creeper, only encountered underground. Their more compact form makes then even more dangerous.

Buildcraft : Once I get my hands on that elusive Buildcraft energy, I’ll be able to pump liquids via pipes between tanks and other machines. For now, they’re just a convenient way to store liquids.

Site Issues

My host seems to be having some problems at the moment. It took me about 10 attempts to get to the page to write this post! I apologise for any inconvenience, and hopefully things will sort themselves out soon.

If you’re after my Minecraft videos while the site problems are still going on, you might have more luck over on my YouTube Channel.

Ark’s Magical Modded Minecraft Misadventure : Episode 19

I start off with a quick tutorial on upgrading your Metallurgy Crusher, and make our first alloy, Bronze. Then it’s back off on the great bee hunt. There was a swamp biome near the village, so perhaps I’ll find some Marshy Bees there.

Mods Mentioned

Metallurgy by Rebel Keithy and Shadowclaimer : There are several mods that allow you to turn ore into dusts, and then into alloys. They’re largely compatible with eachother, but Metallurgy’s crusher is the easiest to use when starting out, before you’re able to utilise more complicated energy sources.

For general purposes (tools and armour), bronze is almost as good as iron, but iron is so common you don’t often need a substitute. There’s plenty of times you’ll need bronze for specific recipes and upgrades, and there’s not much else to do with tin anyway. Keep your bronze in dust form until you need it, as there are two other alloys that use bronze as ingredients.

Forestry by Sir Sengir : My collection of Mundane Bees is complete! Forest, Meadows, Wintry, Modest, Tropical, and Marshy are the base from which my Bee Empire shall be born. I’m wary of attempting any cross-breeding until I’m able to better analyse their individual traits, which, like so much else, is going to need Buildcraft energy. I’m working towards that.

Extra Bees by Binnie : I couldn’t resist grabbing that Water Hive though. As you’ll have guessed from its location, water bees are aquatic.

Ars Magica by Mithion : Another Ars Magica tower lurks in the swamp. I’ve got quite a collection of spells now. I shall have to see how many more of them I can scribe.

Magic Bees by MysticAges: I’m still getting used to all the new hive types that Magic Bees retroactively generated in my world a few days ago.

Ruins by AtomicStryker : It was pure chance that that well was on the edge of the village, and also happened to intersect with a cave system. I had a pretty good idea that something unpleasant was in store for me down there, but it would make for a dull episode if I avoided ALL the traps!

Ark’s Magical Modded Minecraft Misadventure : Episode 18

With my starter hives running, it’s time to go in search of more of the mundane bee species I have Forest and Meadow, but can I find Modest, Wintry, Tropical, and Marshy?. A trip around the surrounding biomes is needed.

May contain moderate amounts of peril..

Mods encountered

Forestry by Sir Sengir: There was another swamp biome near the village. I might head out there tomorrow for a look around.

Magic Bees by MysticAges : The poisonous effect around Tropical hives is nothing compared with what can happen near the hives of magical bees.

Utility Mobs by Father Toast : I shall miss the dear old Luggage. He shall be reborn just as soon as I get my hands on another skeleton skull. From watching the video back, I think he must have tried to enter the wizard tower via the underwater entrance, and drowned. I should fill that in.

Grimoire of Gaia by Silentine : It was the GoG home invasion special today, with a Sphinx in my temple, and a Valkyrie in my house. I’ve been skimping on torches to save coal, but I think I’d better get both of them lit up better.
